The history of the origin of the sweet cherry variety Priusadebnaya yellow
About 20 years ago, a group of employees of the All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Breeding of Fruit Plants. I.V. Michurina, crossing the cherries of the varieties Leningradskaya Krasnaya and Zolotaya Loshitskaya, received a new variety - Priusadebnaya yellow. The team of authors included: B.L. Nikitin, G.G. Nikiforova, I.N. Zolotukhina, L.A. Deineka. The results of the work turned out to be very successful, the new variety was zoned in 1998 in the Central Black Earth Region.
Description of cherry varieties Priusadebnaya yellow
Cherry tree Home garden yellow is characterized by rapid growth, has a rounded, well-leafy crown. The leaves are large, light green, with two yellow glands at the base of the leaf blade.
The flowers are white, collected in inflorescences of three. The berries are yellow, large, with an easily separable stone. The pulp is juicy, yellow, with transparent juice. The taste is sweet with a slight sourness. Berries are almost never used in preparation and freezing, as they are extremely tasty fresh.
Trees begin to bear fruit in the 6th year after planting and give a stable harvest. The self-fertility of the Home Garden yellow provides a clear advantage over other varieties that require pollinators. The growing ability of this cherry is so intense that it is regarded as a disadvantage. The wood and fruit buds are frost-resistant. Cherry blossoming Home garden yellow early. The berries also ripen early, so they do not have time to suffer from pests and diseases, which favorably distinguishes it from other varieties.
Landing
Seedlings with an open root system are planted in spring. Cherry loves warmth and light, does not tolerate stagnant water. Lack of sun negatively affects the taste, and excess moisture leads to cracking of the berries. This spoils the presentation and also impairs their taste.
For landing, illuminated areas on an elevation, protected from cold northern winds, are chosen. It is important to ensure a distance of at least 1.5–2 m from the groundwater level. Sweet cherries prefer to grow on light, fertile sandy soils with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction.
The optimum pH value for planting cherries is 6.5–7.
To plant a cherry seedling with an open root system, you need:
- Dig a hole 80x80x70 cm in size.
- Separate the top fertile layer and mix with compost, humus or peat in a 1: 1 ratio.
- Add gravel to the bottom of the pit to improve drainage.
- Form a mound from the soil-moisture mixture, fix a peg-support on it, place a seedling next to it, carefully spreading the roots down the mound.
- Add the rest of the potting mix, taking care not to leave voids.
- When planting, pay attention to the fact that the root collar is 5-6 cm above the soil level.
- Tamp the soil around the seedling to form an irrigation hole.
- Tie the seedling to the peg.
- Drizzle abundantly until no more water is absorbed.
- Mulch the trunk circle with rotten sawdust, compost or dry peat.
Care features
Caring for cherries of this variety is not difficult, since the variety is resistant to low temperatures and diseases. Since the Home Garden yellow cherry is self-fertile, there is no need for an additional pollinator. True, experience shows that if cherries or sweet cherries of another variety grow nearby, the yield is much better.
Pruning
Immediately after planting, the cherries are cut at a level of 60–65 cm to stimulate the formation of lateral shoots. New branches grow over the summer. In the second year, strong shoots are left (branches that are as distant as possible from each other, located at the greatest angle to the trunk), forming the skeleton of a tree. They are shortened along with the conductor to stimulate branching. In the future, a 3-4-tiered crown is formed and supported.
When pruning in the spring, remove:
- dried or injured branches;
- spinning top shoots;
- branches crossing and growing inside the crown.
By removing the shoots that grow inward and thicken the crown, they improve the illumination and nutrition of the remaining ones, which has a beneficial effect on the harvest. Intense fruiting of cherries occurs on short and medium-sized fruit branches. Do not forget to limit the growth of cherries so that the harvest is easier to harvest.
Experienced gardeners recommend cutting off all flowers of the first year for better rooting of the seedling and obtaining a stable harvest in the future. Subsequently, a regular decrease in the number of flowers by about 30% leads to an increase in size and an improvement in the quality of the fruit.

Watering
Regular high-grade watering is necessary for cherries for normal development and fruiting, however, excessive moisture can significantly deteriorate the quality of the crop due to cracking of the fruit. Important stages for fruit formation in sweet cherry: flowering and ovary formation. At this time, the cherries are watered regularly, pouring at least 2-3 buckets of water under each tree. The frequency of watering depends on the condition of the soil under the mulch. If the ground is still wet, then there is no need to flood the trees, since the roots need not only water, but also air for normal life.
It is recommended that you water the trees abundantly after harvesting the cherry so that the trees are better prepared for winter. In the absence of rain in the fall, 3-4 weeks before the expected frost, you need to once again well moisten the soil under the plants.
Top dressing
If, when planting in a hole, the soil mixture was enriched with organic matter - compost or humus, it is not necessary to fertilize the cherries in the next 2-3 years. In the future, it is worth periodically adding diluted slurry under the trees in a ratio of 1: 6 or watering with nettle infusion.
Preparation of nettle infusion: all the nettle collected during weeding on the site is poured into a 200-liter barrel and filled with water. After 5-6 days, you can use this watering liquid, which is an excellent organic fertilizing agent.
Nitrogen fertilizers (100–150 g of carbamide) are applied only in spring, otherwise they stimulate the intensive growth of young shoots, and trees may die in winter. Phosphorus (200-300 g of superphosphate) and potassium (100-150 g of potassium nitrate) fertilizers are applied in spring, summer, and autumn. Fertilizers are diluted in a bucket of water and watered with a solution or placed in a furrow dug along the perimeter of the crown projection.
You can add 20-25 kg of humus under each tree in the fall. This will not only fertilize the trees, but also protect the roots from the cold.
Preparing for winter
Sweet cherry Home garden yellow has high frost resistance, but young seedlings are sheltered for the winter in order to protect from cold weather and rodents. Peat or spruce branches are laid on the ground along the projection of the crown to protect the roots. The barrel is wrapped in non-woven material, tar paper or corrugated cardboard, which is fixed with Velcro tape. To protect cherries from recurrent spring frosts and sunburns, it is recommended to thoroughly whitewash not only the trunk itself, but also the nearest branches in autumn and early spring.
If, nevertheless, in the spring, longitudinal cracks-frost cracks were found on the bark, you need to thoroughly clean the bark to a healthy layer on a sunny day, spray the entire cleaned surface with a solution of Bordeaux liquid, cover it with a thin layer of garden varnish.
Protection from enemies
Sweet cherry Home garden yellow is practically not affected by diseases and insect pests. For prevention, experienced gardeners adhere to the rules of agricultural technology: do not plant trees too close, remove damaged branches in time and heal frost cracks, remove weeds around trees and mulch the trunk circle.
The main enemy of the Home Garden yellow cherry is birds. Berries attract birds, and to preserve the harvest, gardeners resort to various tricks: hanging shiny objects, imitating birds of prey or scarecrow. The best solution is to pull the nets over the tree crowns.
Reviews
Here is my Household ... It bears fruit almost every year, considering that our north, I think, will feel great in other regions. The fruits are very strong, large, sweet, and the stone is small. After collection, they can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time. Ripens late enough. One but - the birds love her too much!
Home garden - medium early, very melting tender pulp. Disadvantages - a very large harvest from a tree, not transportable.
Home garden is interesting to me as a variety that is not widespread, but promising.
Bright, tender, early, tasty Home Garden yellow cherry anticipates the summer riot of tastes and colors on the table. And there is no need to store the amber miracle berry. After winter vitamin abstinence, cherries must be collected and eaten.
