Millions of years ago, it was fashionable among crocodiles to be vegan.

It's hard to imagine, but 66 million years ago, the prototypes of today's dangerous and bloodthirsty crocodiles could be herbivores.

In the days when the "golden age" of dinosaurs reigned on Earth, it was possible to meet herbivorous crocodiles, according to a study published recently in the journal ScienceDirecte.

Of course, this is only a hypothesis, however, scientists provide a certain amount of evidence that the predecessors of today's alligators, their "cousins", ate grass: the structure of the teeth of some ancient reptiles seems to be adapted to eating plants.

The researchers analyzed 146 teeth from more than 16 species of extinct crocodiles. Thanks to digital technologies for the relief and structure of the teeth, it was concluded that at least half of them were herbivores.
