These so-called nursing homes are gaining popularity in Tokyo. After the law was passed, obliging the owner of a pet to care for him until his death, many Japanese prefer to give their aged four-legged friends to special institutions, says the BBC.
Conditions in these shelters are quite comfortable, the newspaper claims. There, each guest has his own room, specialists take care of him, feed, wash, walk. The owner has the opportunity to observe in real time the life of the animal in the shelter.
The cost of such a service is about 26 thousand dollars per year.
