Many professional gardeners and amateur gardeners do not remain indifferent to flowers and flowering shrubs. At any dacha and garden you can find a plot where you can relax in body and soul. This area will definitely be decorated with flowers, namely roses, because the rose is the queen of all flowers. She is considered fastidious and many people fail to grow her, but if it worked out, then your site will not be left without the attention of prying eyes.
Roses can be of different types and varieties, they differ in the density of the petals, in the height of the bush, in color, in the size of the buds and in the number of flowers on the bush. One of the most popular and favorite varieties of roses for landscaping is the polyanthus rose.

What is a polyanthus rose?
If we disassemble the word "polyanthus" into its components, then we note that "poly" from Latin means "a lot", and "ant" is also translated from Latin as "flower". Literally the expression "polyanthus rose" is translated as "multi-flowered rose". This name speaks for itself, because we can easily recognize a polyanthus rose among other representatives of Rosaceae. Her bush is different low height, dense foliage, bright small flowers, collected in inflorescences and a long flowering time, right up to mid-autumn.
The flowers are small, only 3-4 centimeters in diameter, usually red and pink, rarely white. Terry flowers, sometimes fragrant, they are collected in corymbose inflorescences. There can be more than 50 flowers in one inflorescence, and if in this case you look at the bush, you get the impression that there are almost no foliage on the bush. The foliage is small and dense. Bushes can be as low up to 40 centimeters as high up to 60 centimeters, but they are always strongly branched.
Advantages and disadvantages of a polyanthus rose
This rose variety has a number of advantages:
- Lack of thorns. This makes it possible to decorate areas with them even in kindergartens.
- The density of the shoots. Flowers are formed on each shoot, due to this, the bush turns out to be thick and strewn with flowers almost from the roots to the very crown.
- High frost resistance. This advantage of this variety makes it possible to enjoy rose bushes in the Urals and Siberia. This also helps them bloom almost until the end of autumn, when there are light frosts.
- Resistant to fungi. As mentioned above, roses are very picky plants, but we cannot say this about this variety, since it is not afraid of fungi, which makes it possible for the flowers not to lose color and always remain bright.
- High resilience. In order for the bush to start growing, a shoot 10 centimeters long is enough. They even tried to plant a small shoot on a dog rose and it gave its roots. If the ground part of the bush has died, the plant will recover very quickly, unlike other varieties of roses.
- This variety grows outdoors.
- The flowers remain bright and fresh for 10-14 days.
- Can be grown from seeds. Not all varieties of this plant can boast of this.
- They are not afraid of shadows, namely, they can bloom in a shady place.
- Resistance to excess moisture in the soil. That is, this rose variety will feel great and bloom beautifully even in constantly damp soil.
In addition to the advantages, there should be limitations, but in this case they are insignificant compared to the advantages:
- Poor color range of the variety. According to fans, even white, red, pink and orange colors abound, because they are distinguished by their extraordinary brightness.
- Slight aroma. Based on the feedback from florists, this can even be an advantage. Imagine what a luscious and heavy scent will stand where hundreds of polyanthus roses are planted.
Planting and caring for a polyanthus rose
Exists two ways of landing polyanthus roses:
- From seeds. The seeds are soaked in water two weeks before planting at room temperature. Then they sow in a special soil - a substrate, deepening by 0.5 centimeters, having previously moistened it. It is better to do this in December, in which case the bushes will sprout up just at the time when they can be planted in open ground. Pots cover with glass or film and put away in a cool place. Open periodically for ventilation and moisten. So we keep them for a month. When the sprouts have sprouted, the pots can be placed in a sunny but cool place, that is, protected from direct sunlight. Bushes are usually planted in April - May. When planting in a hole, you need to pour drainage - coarse sand, ash and compost. The bush itself needs to be deepened by 5-10 centimeters. It is worth remembering that flowers with this sowing option will appear only in the second year.
- Cuttings. This method is the most familiar and popular for roses. It is very simple and effective. You can root cuttings at any time of the year.
As with any variety of roses, the polyanthus rose should be pruned. This is best done in the spring. The procedure is simple. It is necessary to remove dried and damaged branches from the bush, shorten healthy branches by one third of it, so that on each shoot 3-5 kidneys left... In general, during the entire flowering period, all dried branches and flowers should be removed, as this stimulates the bush to appear new shoots and buds.
We water this variety once a week, if there is no precipitation. It is also worth feeding the polyanthus rose, this type of care is necessary to stimulate flowering. Top dressing is carried out with mineral fertilizers and infusion of chicken manure in water.
And watering and all cutting should be stopped in August, so that the bush begins to prepare for winter and does not waste energy on the formation of new shoots. And already with the onset of frost, we huddle the bushes by 10 centimeters and cover it with spruce branches and a cloth.
In addition to open ground, polyanthus rose bred in potslike a houseplant. Such roses also do not require particularly reverent care.
Amateur reviews
Gorgeous flowers! Beautiful, blooming constantly. I have been breeding for a long time indoor roses... They are in all my rooms! They grow in ordinary flower pots. They have grown over my entire window. I do not cut them off, that is, they stretch upwards from me. Care is simple: water every other day, do not spare water - they love it. Every 2-3 weeks I add groundbait. A common flower fertilizer. I prune only as a last resort, if there is a dry twig or an old bud. Bloom constantly. About 5-7 buds on one flower... Blossoms especially well in spring: April, May. Just some buds, and then the whole window sill is bright, and attracts the eye :)
I want to write right away that I am still an amateur florist. In the sense that my flowers, unfortunately, do not receive proper care from me, since I know little about breeding and caring for indoor plants. It's not my business or what, I don't know how to justify myself)))
I'll tell you about the Rose, which my husband gave me, five years ago, on March 8. The weather in March is still pretty cool, but, unfortunately, he did not think to wrap a flower, and the store did not tell him. As a result, out of four bushes planted in a pot, only one survived. But I never cease to rejoice looking at him. During the time of leaving, I can say that unpretentious plant, I water it 2-3 times a week, in the winter 1-2. The rose does not like dry air, the leaves begin to wither, so I spray it periodically. I transplant once a year to enrich the soil. She blooms with me 2 times a year, she chooses the season herself. This year is winter and summer.
I really love this flower and grow it whenever the opportunity arises. It just happened in life that sometimes it was necessary to move, because the flowers, as a rule, were either given to someone or simply sold for a not very expensive price. Since when moving, especially over long distances, it is practically impossible to keep the rose.
This spring, I again decided to plant roses in my home. Well, I can't live without them. What can you do. I ordered polyanthus rose seeds online. The seeds arrived, and in early June I sowed my roses. Although before that I soaked them for two weeks in water, so that they swell slightly. Two weeks passed, I planted seeds in the ground and began to wait for shoots. It took about 10 days and I have the long-awaited sprouts from the earth. I was very glad that my roses rose. But not all of them ascended. Only three pieces. They began to grow somehow very quickly, although they had very thin stems. A month passed and my little roses took on color. I was shocked. Never before have I had roses so small, just crumbs.
They bloomed for about a week, all of different colors. They faded and began to grow further. I have never seen such miracles. Now my roses are 3 months old. They grow and branch, their stems become thicker. I think that they will feel good at my house, and they will delight me with their gorgeous flowers.
